Meet Our Doctors

The Doctors deal with medical problems where you may feel acutely ill, or for follow up for an ongoing problem.

Dr H Clare Ash, Partner (part-time) - MBChB (Leeds 1988), DRCOG

Dr Ash trained at The University of Leeds and completed her training as a GP at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. She joined Dr Seeley in partnership at Dearne Valley Health Centre in 1995 and works part-time.

Dr Ash has an interest in Diabetes and Dermatology and also performs the Minor Surgery in the practice as well as Contraceptive Coil and Implant insertions.

Dr Ash lives locally and is a keen Road cyclist and Fell runner and if not out doing this can be found in the garden digging!

Dr James E Hirst, Partner (full-time) - MBCHB (Liverpool 2012), MRCGP

Dr Hirst qualified from Liverpool University in 2012, completing his foundation training in Huddersfield and Bradford. ; He then joined the Pennine GP training programme in 2014, for which he completed his final year of GP training at Dearne Valley Health Centre. On completion of training he remained at the practice and is currently a full time partner at the surgery.

Dr Hirst has an interest in Palliative Care and is also able to perform joint injections for some knee and shoulder problems. Outside of Work Dr Hirst lives locally, he enjoys walking and cycling in his free time.

Dr Karen A Harris, Partner (part-time) - MBChB (Leeds 1991), MRCGP 2005, DFSRH family planning diploma

Dr Harris graduated from Leeds university in 1991 and worked at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Airedale General Hospital before moving to work in Scotland for 3 years. She returned to Yorkshire and completed her GP training in Halifax, Morley and Thornhill.

Dr Harris worked for ten years in Birstall before joining Dearne Valley Health Centre and her qualifications include MBCHB, MRCGP, DFRSH including letters of competence allowing her to fit contraceptive implants and intra-uterine devices.

Dr Harris is a GP trainer having completed a PGCert in Medical Education in 2015 and is responsible for supervision of the GP trainees in the practice .

Dr Elizabeth Wright MBChB (Warwick 2019)

Dr Wright did an undergraduate degree in Biology at The University of York before completing her medical degree at The University of Warwick in 2019. She stayed around the Coventry area for three years before starting GP training in the Pennine Scheme.

Dr Wright spent her last year of training with us here at Dearne Valley Health Centre and was very happy to continue working with us once her training was complete.

Outside of work she loves watching sports and also enjoys boxing when she can!
